Hey AF,

So after reading a little bit, noticed that not many mention "The Sweetness". Please share your thoughts or any quotes.

"For, you must know, that every thing in its first Matter is corrupt and bitter,
which corruption and bitterness is called dying poison,
which is the cause of Life in all things, as will be sufficiently manifest,
if you with right reason do weigh the Natures of things.

Consider well, O Son, that when Lucifer the Angel of Pride, first rebelled against God,
and prevaricated the Command of the most High, be assured that this was made corrupt,
bitter, and harsh to him: No less was the fall and prevarication of our first
Parents Adam and Eve, whom death and condemnation followed, made to them
corruption and bitterness, and likewise to us in whom the same corruption is
propagated. Many more like examples I could recite, if need were: But setting
aside these, to come to what is proper to our discourse; consider well, that of
all precious Fruits which grow out of the Earth, their first Matter is bitter and
harsh, as still retaining some footstep of the former corruption and putrefaction;
which bitterness, by the means of continual action of natural heat, is with great
virtue turned into sweetness. Now therefor, Son, if thou wilt be ingenious,
this little will suffice whereby to find out much more, and to perceive my meaning:
Consider therefore well, Son, that according to the old Proverb,

He sweet deserves not, who no bitter tasts."

This is from an old journal called "Parachemy". It includes an interview with Frater Albertus and a report on bee pollen.

"Mercury
The Universal Spirit permeates all of the Earth. Mercury is this Spirit, the vitalness of One Life, which like a pure river of water, clear as crystal, flows from One Source and enters into all things.

Various descriptive characteristics are attributed to this Mercury according to individual viewpoints. But just as each thing is found to have its own particular savor so is this Mercury distinguished by a savor that is unequalled in the conscious experience. It is known by a special sweetness, a sweetness like unto honey.

It matters not where man and woman find themselves upon earth, for this sweetness of Life is to be found and known everywhere. Man and woman choose their own experience of Life. When what is chosen is in accord with selfish and narrowminded pursuits, what is sweet is experienced as being bitter; and at the same time there is a craving for more and more of it - of that power, which, when it comes, only too often fills such ones with a greater bitterness.

The sweetness of Mercury is tasted of in that which is known to be Good. In this Good the sweetness of Life is savored. No longer are there cravings, for there is known the fulfillment of a sweet peace. Throughout all kingdoms the sweetness of Mercury is and can be experienced.

It is man and woman who cause, through ignorance and lack of understanding, a bitterness to be attached to the pureness and sweetness of Life. As there comes a sincere and humble receptiveness to know and to understand Good, there comes experiences of It, for as each is ready so is there given to each to know the sweetness of a Good Life.

With each breath the sweetness of Life is given to us to experience. If we know it not, then we alone are responsible for the experience that is contrary to it, for we have in our own particular way set ourselves apart from it. In doing so we experience a bitterness.

When we humble ourselves and childlike eagerly and trustingly ask to know that Life which is Good, Its sweetness reveals Itself."

Thank you Sol Sister for sharing. Was also wondering what it might taste like.

I have not done the practical lab work to have experienced this flavor from a substance that I transformed, however I do feel resonance with the experience that is being described: Love.

Never in my life have I experienced a sweetness on my lips that surpasses the kiss of a beloved. In addition, my previous bitter tasting experiences a make the good experiences so much sweeter.

The experiences of falling in love, falling out of love, getting back up and trying again, being away from your beloved, and becoming inspired to be a better person through love also seem to fit the descriptions given in the quotes above nicely.

Thank you for sharing Sol Sister :). What your sharing reminds me of this.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
"Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.

It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].

It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.

Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].

Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth]."

Here is another quote from the bible referencing sweetness. It is Sampson's riddle:

"Out of the eater, something to eat;
out of the strong, something sweet."

Thank you for sharing :). Have not read that before. Here is a reference to a lion and honey from the riddle you shared. Maybe this honey is "The Sweetness"? What is stronger than a lion?

Judges 14:18
The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down,

“What is sweeter than honey?
What is stronger than a lion?”

And he said to them,

“If you had not plowed with my heifer,
you would not have found out my riddle.”

Through Love all that is bitter will be sweet,
Through Love all that is copper will be gold,
Through Love all dregs will become wine,
through Love all pain will turn to medicine.
-Rumi

I find it interesting that Love in the quote above is a force of transmutation.

When I think of it chemically, a bitter alkaloid in a plant tastes the way it does on account of its structure. Same with “sweet” and “sour” phytochemicals in plants.

I imagine if you apply enough heat in order to destroy the chemical bonds which create the “bitter” flavor, you could use the byproducts to produce a sweetness.

Practically, I’ve smelled and tasted some works which, after the first distillation, taste of soot and smoke, unpleasant. But three or four rectifications later, they started becoming more sweet in flavor.

 Hmmm, what would correlate to the lion in the riddle if the sweetness is love?

Could it possibly be the conscious self? The unconscious mind is a very strong force that influences how we act, especially when we are on "auto pilot". However, when you are falling in love, you are intensely aware of your actions towards and experiences and with the other person. Love often moves us to accomplish feats that would otherwise seem impossible and overcome personal limitations that were put in place by our subconscious.

That is a great quote! Also thank you for sharing your practical experience. It is interesting to hear that with rectification, sweetness can come from a work that smelled burnt.

If I could time travel, Alan Watts would be a person that I'd love to have a conversation with. Here is an excerpt from a lecture about love called "Divine Madness" that Alan Watts gave:

"This morning I’m going to talk to you about a particularly virulent and dangerous form of divine madness which is called falling in love. Which is, from a practical point of view, one of the most insane things you can do, or that can happen to you. Because in the eyes of a given woman or a given man, an opposite who go to the eyes of everybody else a perfectly plain and ordinary person can appear to be God or Goddess incarnate, to be such a and enchantment that one can say in the words of an old song which probably dates me every little breeze seems to whisper Louise. And this is an extraordinary disruptive experience a subversive experience in the conduct of human affairs. Because you never know when it will strike off for what reason...

...Well as I’ve often said I’m not a preacher and therefore I don’t know what you should do. But I would like to make some reflections on this particular form of madness, and to raise again a very disturbing question. And this disturbing question is as follows: Is it only when you are in love with another person that you see them as they really are? And in the ordinary way, when you are not in love with people you see only a fragmented version of that being. Because when you are in love with someone you do indeed see them as a divine being. And suppose that’s what they are truly. And your eyes have by your beloved been opened in which case your beloved is serving to you as a kind of guru. An initiator. And that is why there is a form of sexual yoga, based on the idea that man and woman are to each other as mutual guru and student. And through a tremendous outpouring of psychic energy in total devotion and worship to this other person who is respectively the goddess of the god. You realize by total fusion and contact with the other organism. You go down to the divine center in them and it bounces back and you discover your own or you could put it in this way which is another aspect of it that by falling in love and regarding falling in love not just as a sort of sexual infatuation, because it’s always more than that, isn’t it."

-Alan Watts

I don't know anything about the yoga he speaks of, but the concept of seeing the Divine in another through love rings as clear as a bell to me.

Revelation 10:9
"So I went unto the Angel, and said to him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up, and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth as sweet as honey."

Also noticed that the "little book" is referenced as a "little scroll" (Leaf/Sheet of paper?) in some translations:

Revelation 10:9
I went up to the Angel who stood on the sea and the land and told him to give me the little scroll. Then he said to me, “Take it, and eat it. It will be sour in your stomach but sweet as honey in your mouth.”

Revelation 10:8-11
The voice out of Heaven spoke to me again: “Go, take the book held open in the hand of the Angel astride sea and earth.” I went up to the Angel and said, “Give me the little book.” He said, “Take it, then eat it. It will taste sweet like honey, but turn sour in your stomach.” I took the little book from the Angel’s hand and it was sweet honey in my mouth, but when I swallowed, my stomach curdled. Then I was told, “You must go back and prophesy again over many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

Matthew 4:1-4
“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. The tempter came to Him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”

Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Jeremiah 15:16
"Your words were found and I ate them. And Your word became to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart, for I am called by Your name, O Lord God of Hosts."

Genesis 1-3
"In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.

And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

God saw that the light was good (pleasing, useful) and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light [distinguishing it] from the darkness."

Psalm 33:6
"The heavens were made by the Word of the Lord. All the stars were made by the breath of His mouth."

Isaiah 45:18
"For thus says the Lord—Who created the heavens, God Himself, Who formed the earth and made it, Who established it and did not create it to be a worthless waste; He formed it to be inhabited—I am the Lord, and there is no one else."

Gospel of Thomas
(77) Jesus says:

"I am the light which is on them all.

I am the All, and the All has gone out from me and the All has come back to me.

Split a piece of wood: I am there; lift the stone and thou shalt find me there!"

John 1:1-5
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

This One was in the beginning with God.

All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not one thing came into being that has come into being.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of humanity.

And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it.”

2 Corinthians 4:6-7
"For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [to beam forth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

However, we possess this precious treasure [the Divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves."

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him."

John 14:1-21
“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me.

In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and I will take you to Myself, so that where I am you may be also.

And [to the place] where I am going, you know the way.”

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; so how can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the [only] Way [to God] and the [real] Truth and the [real] Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

If you had [really] known Me, you would also have known My Father. From now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father and then we will be satisfied.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you do not know Me yet, Philip, nor recognize clearly who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’

Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not say on My own initiative or authority, but the Father, abiding continually in Me, does His works [His attesting miracles and acts of power].

Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe [Me] because of the [very] works themselves [which you have witnessed].

I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in Me [as Savior] will also do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these [in extent and outreach], because I am going to the Father.

And I will do whatever you ask in My name [as My representative], this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified and celebrated in the Son.

If you ask Me anything in My name [as My representative], I will do it.

“If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.

“I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, bereaved, and helpless]; I will come [back] to you.

After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.

On that day [when that time comes] you will know for yourselves that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.

The person who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who [really] loves Me; and whoever [really] loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him [I will make Myself real to him].”

Isaiah 45:5-8

"I am Yahweh, and there is none besides Me;
besides Me there is no God.
I will gird and arm you, though you have not known Me,

That men may know from the east and the rising of the sun
and from the west and the setting of the sun that there is no God besides Me.
I am Yahweh and there is none besides Me.

The One forming light and creating darkness,
Causing well-being and creating calamity;
I am Yahweh; I do all these things.

Rain down, O heavens, from above,
Let the clouds pour down righteousness [all the blessings of God];
Let the earth open up, let salvation bear fruit,
And righteousness spring up with it;
I myself, Yahweh, have created it."

His words make me cry.

Last night I started reading Von Welling's Opus and thought this would be appropriate here:

Opus Mago-Cabalisticum et Theosophicum said:
Those practiced in true chemistry know well enough how to separate acidic salt from its coincidental acidity and to give it back the original mildness and sweetness, which it will inherently possess, if it can be returned to its pure, unadulterated state, which not everyone is capable of doing. The acidity of salt is a characteristic caused by sulfur or subterranean fire, because it can be separated from this trait, whereby the salt can thus return to its original essence. All acidity is the result of sulfur, and sulfur can easily be reduced to a strongly acidic solution and then transformed into a salt, which can in turn be purified to its original state. Whoever understands this will take note of how alkaline materials (see part 5) are easily transformed into a pleasant acidic cooking salt. Thus, we have sufficiently proven that acidity is something derivative of sulfur. Any knowledgeable observer can readily see how erroneous it is to consider vitriol and sulfur to be two very closely related things, indeed almost one thing.

Before I log off for another year, I want to leave behind something for you Seraphim (and all others who read this).
And as for @Black, your posts are looking more and more like Schmuldvch haha I am very impressed with you. Good posts and good luck!

Like @Black said, the Sweetness is what we're after.

There is a Poison in Our Matter that needs to die off. First there is Bitter, then there is Sweet.

Not much needs to be said on The Work (In my humble opinion), other than to Understand the Philosophy, and Apply it to Our Matter. When you understand the Philosophy well, you will find The Matter... And you do not need to worry about how long it will take. In my experience, I've been learning to trust Life, remain earnest towards the Path of Self, and to pray diligently for guidance... In my experience, everything on Earth, death of a loved one, getting beat up, covid-19, loss of a loved one, No matter what happens to you or to anyone or to the Earth, everything happens for a Reason. The Great Work exits in the Macrocosm and nothing that happens in the Macrocosm is random or without purpose... All things have its purpose. Trust in Life. Be earnest. Pray. Understand the Philosophy, Apply the Philosophy (even to yourself)... I have faith you'll find the answer doing this.

All the problems in the World, are not actually problems. Your Ego makes it a problem. When you center yourself into Being, you are centered in the background, or the center of all things. It's kind of like looking at everything including your thoughts and feelings up on a 3d/4d movie screen. There is a story of a Buddha who was set on fire and although the body was being destroyed, the Buddha was not bothered by the pain.

This might be hard to grasp at first. Again, I will assert, there is no ''problem''. The ''problem'' is only a ''problem'' because you choose to identify it as a problem. This might be hard to grasp. Again, I will say, center yourself into Being, and all forms of Attachments, thoughts, memories, feelings, addictions will be off of you and will not stick. Including your problems. You will be at Peace, no matter what is happening to you, around you, or to others.

Love is our nature. Joy is its perfume.

Be well and I plan to be back next year with updates on My Work.

You are not attached to your own suffering. Its does not exist if you do not care.
" the wise act without care, treat all like flowers by the grave "

You got it. But there was nothing really to get.
Take care on your voyage.
