Hey Black, what is your take on this from Aphorismi Urbigerani

XXXVIII. The above-mentioned Spiritus Mundi, although of no use at all in this our great Work, is yet a great Menstruum in extracting of Tinctures out of Metals, Minerals, Animals, and Vegetables, and in performing great things in the Art volatilizing all fixed Bodies, and principally Gold.

It seems to me the author is stating that Spiritus Mundi is not as important in creating the great work.

Specifically "Spiritus Mundi, although of no use at all in our great Work"

care to expound and elaborate?

Hi Appleheads

Baro Urbigerus was never granted Entry into Alchemy .... no SM, no Alchemic Process, no Quintessence, no Stones and no Augmentation or Multiplication.

Also the Alchemists do not Extract " Tinctures out of Metals, Minerals, Animals, and Vegetables", they Extract Quintessence and from this they make their Tinctures.

Adept Alchemists Understand that there are many types of SM (many types of Our Mercury, etc, etc) for very specific Alchemic Processes ... read HERE

There were a lot of charlatans in the past that pretended to know about Alchemy .... nothing has changed as there are possibly even more in this day and age.

Not all books that talk about Alchemy are true and correct.

Even the best Alchemy books do not make an Adept Alchemist.

Fascinating, how did you come to the conclusion that Urbigerus was never granted entry into Alchemy? There is very little in the historical record about Urbigerus.

Anyone that has Entered into Alchemy and has completed the required Work can clearly see Pretenders that have .... NO Understanding of Alchemy Theory or Practice.

The Pretenders only have to spout a few short sentences and they are then known to the Adept Alchemists of this world as being ..... totally full of bullshit.
There is very little in the historical record about Urbigerus.

Additionally my Alchemy Teacher told me some years back that "Baro Urbigerus was never granted Entry into Alchemy".

He (my Alchemy Teacher) gave me a long list of who has received what.

Interesting, my alchemy teacher said that your alchemy teacher is wrong. I guess we are at a stand still.

Hi Appleheads

We are not at a "stand still".

Appleheads, has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to collect the Spiritus Mundi ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Work the Primary Alchemic Process ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Extract the Universal Quintessence ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Extract the Particular Quintessence ?

From all of the Three (3) Realms ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Work the Wet Path or the Dry Path ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Work the Acetate Path ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Work Alchemic Augmentation ?

Has your Alchemy Teacher shown you how to Work Alchemic Multiplication ?

The above are some of the things that my Alchemy Teacher has shown to me that have been put to the Test and shown to be True and Correct many times over many years.

Appleheads .... If you can answer these questions in the affirmative then you and I will be able to have many long conversations about Alchemy and it's numerous Processes on this OPEN forum.

@black would it be friendly & fair to ask where it is that you yourself most often enjoy Working (within that grand list of avenues for Artistry you shared)?

Hi REL

I enjoy all of the Work of Alchemy ... though for many long years my Alchemy Teacher has directed me to the Extracting of higher and higher Frequency Universal Quintessence for the making of Alchemic Tinctures for ingestion.

In RAMS there are 2 weird methods of making a stone. One says to heat an empty flask lol and something red will magically appear over time.

What books are those two weird methods in? Hyle and Koahyl?
I am curious.

I didn't read it myself but after a search it seems that particular one is from "Rosarium Philosophorum" by Arnaldus de Villa Nova, a 13th-century alchemist.

Correction, from THIS thread :

Hyle Und Coahyl
Page 63/72
Start at the very last sentence at the bottom. It seems to describe an empty flask (unknown if sealed or not), and says to heat it. And then some magical "water" forms. The most remarkable part about the water is that it's described as being cold to the touch. Coldness seems to be a common vein amongst various processes. Maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, but this doesn't seem like normal atmospheric moisture condensed to me. If you boil down dew it doesn't turn into a ruby red stone either.

You were right 🙂

Hi Mahavira

You may notice at the end of that post there is a quote from Confession of Trithimius.

Confession of Trithimius - Abbot of Spanheim
3/3 Last paragraph
"I advise you to pay great attention to the boiling of water" This assumes he literally means H2O by water though.

To be clear ..... the water he is writing about is not H2O.

I recommend the book "Alchimie de Mérelle" (Alkemia éditions in French, but I see that our old friend Rhoend edited it) : common water that has boiled would not be H20 anymore.

Just landing here after a long pause ... sorry if it is not the point.

No, Rhoend wasn't involved in the initial editing. There were three of us who worked with Ole on the translation. Unless Rhoend added something later on his own with crediting us.

I was a co-author of two alchemical books, and translated 8 of Rhoend's books from Spanish to English, for a total of about 800 hours of work. At $50 per hour, that's worth $40,000 of my time. I didn't ask for a penny, yet at the end, he dismissed me without any reason and with no appreciation. He is not a good person and uses others for his advantage.

Illen, Sorry to hear about that. You've given a lot to this community. I've enjoyed your posts and translations for years.
May you be rewarded with heaps of our gold or of the vulgar... whichever suits you more.

Thanks.

Thanks, @Triune One. I doubt if I will ever get close to finding Our Gold, but I've been enjoying the journey, and have acquired some knowledge and understanding about Nature/God and our purpose, which is worth far more than gold.

Well that's pretty horrible. Are the books any good? I remember looking at them years ago and the loafty price tag. I was going to buy them but then another kind member of the forum (no longer with us) sent me a private message basically saying the entire thing was crap

Some of the books are worthwhile, the information in others are already generally known, but I think he got most of the information from other generous souls. He was very good at using others to get them to reveal their secrets. IMO none of them are worth the price he was asking. The eight English books were completely bonus for him since it didn't cost him a penny to have them translated. Yet he still charged a high price for them. I don't think he actually ever made the Stone himself. I'm not sure if anyone has in the last century (other than performing some particulars or "archemy").

"No longer with us" as in no longer posting here? Or no longer alive on this plane?

I'm not sure if anyone has in the last century (other than performing some particulars or "archemy").
Do you mean this current century (21st) or the previous one (20th)? What about Fulcanelli? What about someone who is directly mentored by the All-Knowing Alpha & Omega himself?

To the best of my knowledge, there are quite a few people alive today who managed to synthesize a legitimate form of alchemical Quintessence, but none of them to the extent/potency of the Ph. Stone described in the classical literature. There is apparently a big difference between being able to ferment a Quintessence in various subject matters via a prepared Alkahest (or "Philosophical Spirit of Wine") and a truly super-potent Ph. Stone that can heal most illnesses and "transmute" many times its weight. A Ph. Stone which Doctor Who would describe as "much bigger on the inside".

Additionally, although possibly helpful in some paths (such as speeding up the "enlivening" of the subjects we intend to work with), I think this borderline pathological obsession with collecting so-called "pure SM" ain't done much good to anyone. Although 'Spiritus Mundi" is what underlies all alchemy, it can never be collected "pure", no more than anyone can collect "pure" sunlight in an empty jar for later use as a light-bulb at night.

To all those who have had some success so far, I think our Agents or Alkahests do not (yet) possess the required potency and ingress to reach beyond the intra-molecular level of physical matter. If we are to cross that threshold, we must "penetrate" matter at the atomic level, without destroying it (if you subscribe to the atomic model/theory, that is). IMO.

To achieve such potency and ingress, our (relatively fixed) Ph. Salt must be finessed and sublimed almost to the edge of material corporeality, and this Quest for the finest possible "Golden Fleece" is not a path for those who seek fast gratification. Such a sublimation is much more "tantric" in nature and can not be achieved in any of the "quickie" paths. Common distillations would be a big no-no at this stage. Again, IMO.

Can it be collected "impure" and made pure by art?

I was referring to one of our Spanish friends that hasn't posted in many years. I would like to believe he's still on this plane, but I wouldn't be able to tell you.

Beautiful words.

@ghetto alchemist,
@Lakshmana

I don't feel very comfortable talking about alchemy anymore. But if I did, I would have posted a similar response (similar to the post quoted here by Andro) when you mentioned that Laks gold might have some potential to transmute.

Volatile salts, as a general rule, are the subjects that hold this property of "penetration". I don't think it sits well with hermetic theory to look for transmutation in anything outside of these, at least from an alchemical perspective, IMO.

And I guess the story runs even deeper, with levels of volatilization matching levels of atomic activation, if we are to heed our friend Andro here. Also one of my recommendations.

Think of the Salt as a "drug delivery" system, and the Sulfur (quintessence) as the actual medicine itself. The Sulfur might be good. But without being able to penetrate to the very core of a matter, it won't be able to apply it's full effects.

Hope you're all well 🌞

It is always "pure". It just cannot be directly handled and "alchemically evolved/progressed" as such. There will always be a material envelope in the actual laboratory operations, no matter how subtle.

To illustrate the concept of "purification" (credit to Ken Wheeler): Can we "purify" gold? No. Gold is gold is gold. Whether solid, liquid or gas, it is still gold. We can only separate from it that which it is not.
