Popcorn...not just a catchy 70's electronic music tune...also an exciting alchemy related theory.

I have believed for a long time that Quartz and Gold especially pop into being like a fluid suddenly crystallizing or like a popcorn.
I have seen it in the lab now, It's beautiful gas turns into metal.

It was Lakshmana who first proposed this theory.
I've always thought it had the ring of truth.
Especially when you see images like this:

It was taken from this video:

You can see that the guy processes magnetite black sand without any visible gold.
He heats it up and quenches it in water.
Then suddenly finds pieces of visible gold.

Here's how I see this popcorn stuff works....

You really missed the opportunity to ask if it pops...

Looks interesting... I always thought popcorn was a microversion of how the Big Bang happened. It's the most fascinating "food" in terms of transformation.

Earthquakes can help form large gold nuggets in quartz veins. Quartz is piezoelectric — it generates voltage when stressed (squeezed by seismic waves). This can electrochemically pull dissolved gold out of surrounding fluids onto existing grains, causing them to grow in "pops" over repeated events. It's like the quartz acts as a natural battery, accumulating gold. Not sudden creation from nothing, but accelerated deposition that can seem dramatic.

Thanks for sharing <3 very helpful. Curious, where did the HIM go after the reactions?

I wasn't confidant to say so, but IMO it probably sticks to the newly created gold.

Why isn’t He, rather than popping, just making a new body for Himself out of the available elements?

Liebig’s Law of the Minimum states:

[…] that growth is dictated not by total resources available, but by the scarcest resource (limiting factor).

In other words, if “popping” out of elements is a thing, why would a stone produce gold over silver or even copper?

also…. is He always necessarily looking for a home?

But also, I remember a thread about earthquakes and quartz veins and gold. Especially in relation to iron deposits.

However, as far as anything interesting goes, I’m still sitting in my armchair on that one.

I suppose that you could say that perhaps HE is always looking to create a home (or body)...and TBH I rather like that metaphor.
In that regard, HE is just like any human, who will use whatever's around us to try to make a comfortable shelter for ourselves, in whichever environment we find ourselves in.

if “popping” out of elements is a thing, why would a stone produce gold over silver or even copper?
WRT to a proper lab created p-stone, IMO the artist "colors"/trains the HIM to create the desired metal.
IMO this is done by sandwiching the HIM between an atom of the desired metal and an atom of oxygen.

The problem with this idea, is that magnetite is essentially iron oxide which contains HIM....according to my theory, magnetite should be a transmutation stone to create iron.
But instead...it makes electrum (gold and silver).
I honestly don't know why this would happen.
My best guess would be that perhaps the fact that magnetite excludes earth's magnetic field from inside itself is somehow causing gold/silver to manifest, but that's all I got, and even that's pretty damn flimsy.

But....if we just roll with your metaphor, we could say that magnetite is a very uncomfortable "home" for HIM, and gold/silver is the most comfortable one. So HE simply transmutes his favourite environment as soon as the conditions are right and that he's able to.
I gotta admit, it sounds and feels pretty elegant.

I remember a thread about earthquakes and quartz veins and gold. Especially in relation to iron deposits.
That sounds interesting, and I would very much like to read it.
Please post a link if you ever come across it again.

For anyone ever wanting to induce the popcorn reaction....it turns out that the reaction pathway only works on the new moon.
[See HERE (post #50)].
