"Dark" is a German series on Netflix.

Two seasons are already out, third and last season coming in 2020.

If you haven't seen it yet, drop everything you're doing and go watch it.

Now!

PS: If you're in the US, it will play the English-dubbed audio by default, which sucks.

For a much better and immersive experience, select the original German audio with subtitles in your preferred language.

PPS: What are you still doing here?

:p

I also recommend it highly!

There are quite some alchemical references, images, books more or less hidden in the scenes.

But even without those, this show is awesome.

An excellent show!

Hi, Andro.
I have seen all seasons, but a think I'll have to see them again.
Too much info to assimilate.

Just finished the second season. Glad to hear there will be a third.

The show made me like this crappy old song...or at least the 2009 version...

If you like it, maybe it's not so crappy :)

I didn't really like it when I first heard it, yet it was so infectiously catchy that it was hard to resist

Oh, and I actually owned the Nena album (vinyl), with the original 1984 version of "Igendwie Irgendwo Irgendwann"... Nostalgia... Time flies... Even for Immortals :p

I notice that season 3 is now available for viewing, and promptly watched the first half of episode one.

This is a screenshot from the TV series Dark.

It looks like an actual Hermetic/alchemical engraving. But it was made for the TV series.

Watch the show "Dark" if you're up to some high-octane mind-fuck.

Andro, I take it you're still endorsing this series?

How would you rank the seasons? Season 1 best, or 2 or 3?

I'll try and watch it over the holidays. I like time travel.

...it will play the English-dubbed audio by default, which sucks...

Watching films dubbed should be a capital offence.

I just finished the first season.
This is one of the most high quality shows I've ever watched.
The acting, cinematography, lighting, and story are top notch.
I normally spot inconsistencies in the plot in just about every TV series out there.
These inconsistencies, in my opinion, are there to "mess with the viewer." It's a cheap and lowball
method of trapping watchers by keeping them dissatisfied so they'll remain engaged.
but not with this series.
I found it all very consistent with itself, with its design.

now for some discussion and questions. (slight spoiler alert)
@Andro - how do you view this as Gnostic?
What aspects are Gnostic?
I am getting a better sense of what Gnostic refers to...
Is it what the "priest" Noah accounts?
There is no God. People would rather cling to any story than face the pain of that reality?

I've had a hard time actually putting my finger on what Gnosticism actually means,
so it'll be very helpful for me to get a sense of what you feel in this writing applies to Gnostic views.

I very much enjoyed what the time machine maker says as well.
About the third dimension that people omit when speaking of the opposites.
the third. Very alchemical there.

and the imagery and latin Sic mundus Creatus Est directly from the Emerald Tablet wayyyy cool.

Thank you.
A really great watch. Riveting. Pretty profound too.

I just finished the first season.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Maybe it's better to discuss it after you watch all 3 seasons.

Most stuff that seems like loose ends is eventually resolved by the time the show ends.

My own experience-based "gnostic" views are not typical/classical ones. We can maybe discuss them at some point, on a different thread.

The way Liberation is addressed by the time the show is finished, I find absolutely fascinating.

Excellent.
I am halfway through Season 2.
Still very in keeping with the excellence of Season 1.
One little twist I didn't like, but will remain open 'til the end.
Chat soon.

I finished Season 3.
I was really pissed off at Season 3 as the beauty and riveting nature of Seasons 1 and 2 turned into a kill fest.
With those creepy hair-lip guys and lots of garroting, I thought the series had just tanked into a festering mass of
violence and had lost the plot. But...

It all comes together in the end, doesn't it?
A brilliant end which even made sense of the senseless killing.

Loved it. Found it beautiful and brilliant.
Glad it's over too, as it does tend to cloud my mind with the clutter of details
and scenes and the beauty and pain of it all
when I am trying to keep a still pond.

Thanks for the recommendation again.

Care to elaborate?

Spoiler alert.

I didn't like at the end of Season 2 when Adam shot Jonas' love Martha...
then the other Martha from the other world showed up and took Jonas to another world.
I let out a big groan with that... as the whole plot was already complex enough.
I felt it killed the magic of the first two seasons for me...BUT...
and this is a big but :)
the end of Season 3 brought it very nicely together.
So it's like, season 3 opens it up to the other world, and you see endless suffering and killing
and people acting out their deepest egoic desires, and me, as the watcher, suffered along with it (by choice),
but then there's a beautiful resolution to that suffering in the end.
Very interesting. Excellent story telling.

More spoiler alert!

At the moment of the "Apocalypse" event, "time stands still" and there is "Free Will" to act outside the Loops.

At this precise moment, reality splits into 3.

1. In one version, Jonas is taken to Other Martha's world to "fulfill his purpose" in that loop and is killed afterwards.
2. In another version, Jonas is NOT taken by Martha 2, but goes on to become "Adam".
3. Yet in the third version (revealed in Season 3), Jonas and Other Martha go back to the actual Origin Point of the two "false timelines" and manage to dissolve them, leaving only the "original timeline".

And you only really discover this third timeline at the very end, which, very appropriate to alchemy, suggests, we cannot know the "third" in the trifecta, until the dualism dies and is resolved into it.
